Wine folly:

Wine folly describes this wine as dry with a medium-full body and medium-high tannins and acidity. Rioja has flavors of plumb, cherry, dill, vanilla, and leather. It is recommended that these wines age in their bottles for over 10 years and decant for 1 hour. Lamb is noted as the ideal pairing since the tannins in this wine pair well with the fat in the meat, but chorizo, pork, and chicken were also noted as desirable pairings.

My Review:

I had never tried a Rioja before and wanted to try this one after seeing its 92 point rating at the store. I really enjoyed this wine. When smelling it, I picked up notes of cherry and spice with a hint of cocoa. When tasting it, I also tasted cherry and spice, specifically black pepper. This was a smooth wine with deep color and I thought it was mildly dry. It had smooth tannins and a medium finish with medium-high acidity. I did not pair this wine with food but enjoyed it on its own. If I were to pair it with a meal, a savory dish with high-fat content would pair well. Maybe with roasted asparagus and mashed potatoes. I would buy this wine since I think it has incredible value for its low price.
